Materuni & Coffee Day Trip Itinerary

Start your mini-adventure with a scenic drive from Moshi, winding up the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to Materuni Village, located approximately 1,800 meters above sea level. This area, known for its rich, fertile soil and perfect climate, is home to some of the best coffee in Africa.
Your first stop is a local coffee farm, where you’ll learn the fascinating process of how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed. You’ll even have the chance to roast your own beans and prepare a fresh cup of coffee the traditional Chagga way. After sipping on your delicious creation (far superior to your office coffee!), it’s time for a scenic 45-minute hike.
As you make your way through the hills and valleys toward Materuni Falls, you’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, meandering across ridges, dipping into mini-valleys, and crossing small, splashing rivulets. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights into the local flora, explaining how plants are used for both food and traditional medicine, while also giving you a deeper understanding of Chagga culture. Feel free to ask questions as you learn about a lifestyle that’s truly unique.
As you approach the falls, you’ll hear the roar of the water before you see it. When Materuni Falls finally comes into view, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking sight: a shimmering curtain of water falling 200 feet into a rippling pool below. The mountain waters are cool and refreshing—perfect for a dip after your hike. Take a swim or just float in the serene pool, enjoying the natural beauty and coolness of the pure mountain water.
